Why do so many people think that Renault owns Nissan?
Question by 510Driver: Why do so many people think that Renault owns Nissan?
They have created a partnership called the Nissan/Renault Alliance, neither one owns either one.
Renault bought 44% of the company to help Nissan from going bankrupt. While Nissan owns 15% of Renault.

It is true that they are the biggest share holder, but that doesn’t make them owner of the company, but they are 50/50 on all of the decisions that are made for both companys. As for them work with GM, well lets just say it will be very interesting to see if they use a Titan engine in a Chevy/GMC Truck, LOL.
Gerald S:
Effectively speaking, if I went in on a pie with you 44% to be exact. You want pie and I want pie, but I will take the whole thing, because technically I own it, does that sound about right to you!

But it is true Renault is majority share holder. Nissan was on the skids back in early 1990. Now we might own the biggest car maker in the world!

Perhaps you are not aware that Renault, Nissan and GM are currently having discussions to merge together into one large international automotive company.
When you own 44% of another company, you effectively run it as if you owned 100%.
One of renaults top executives is running nissans efforts in their domestic market. (japan)
