Why are they discontinuing the Bentley Arnage?

Question by ¡Marinabear!: Why are they discontinuing the Bentley Arnage?
I read on Forbes.com that they’re discontinuing it, but when I Googled a picture of it, it was gorgeous! What happened?

The Bentley Arnage is the last car to by Bentley to be tied to Rolls. It is quite likely, and this is only speculation, that the company wanted to design a completely new car independent to Rolls Royce. Also as other posters acknowledged the car was a gas hog, but I don’t think that was the reason. American’s contrary to popular belief did not all give up their gas guzzlers when gas prices skyrocketed. A person able to buy a $ 500,000 + car is not worried about gas, and I’ve never noticed an abundance of Bentley’s here in the U.S. to begin with. This was a car for a very exclusive niche market, and they probably reached their estimated amount of sales.

Its being replaced by a new better car called the Mulsanne. The current one has been out since 1998 which is almost double a typical product life. This happens to every car. We don’t still ride around in Model T’s or 57 Chevy’s do we?

The replacement is bigger, fancier, more powerful, and lighter (supposedly).

The old engine (which is based on a really ancient design) wouldn’t meet ever-tightening emissions standards, and they figured, as long as we have to build a new engine, let’s put a new car around it.

But you’re right: it’s lovely. I’d rather have one of those than a Rolls-Royce any day.
