What Is The Formula 1 Car Racing?

Article by Mike Selvon

Formula 1 car racing is also known as F1 car racing. You might mistake it for Indy car racing because the cars look very similar. However, this is not the case. The rules for an Indy car race are very different from those of a Formula 1 race. The FIA, or Federation Internationale de l’Automobile, has set down that F1 car racing is the highest class available in open-wheel racing.

The FIA has the authority to do this because they govern all automobile and other car racing sports around the world. F1 gets its name from the “formula” that the FIA uses to qualify drivers and their vehicles. The rules and regulations are all very strict.

The Formula One circuit is made up of street car racing, which is referred to as the Grand Prix. One thing that is distinctly different about the Formula 1 racing circuit is that there are two championships at the end of the circuit: one for the automobile constructors and one for the drivers.

A race of this type is generally held on a specially built car race track or on a roadway. The road races are perhaps the most popular of the Formula 1 races; the most widely known being the Monaco Grand Prix.

Formula 1 car racing involves vehicles that are modified for optimal performance. The speed that can be obtained in one of these cars can reach 360 mph. On corners, at high speeds, g-force is experienced. The constructors of the cars are members of the car racing team and they must follow a certain set of rules when putting the cars together; however, they are allowed some leeway to modify the aerodynamics, electronics, tires, and suspension to improve performance on the track.

Each of the Formula 1 car racing vehicles is considered to be a single seater. This means that there is no room provided for more than one seat, unlike the stock cars. There are a total of ten teams and twenty drivers each year who compete in the circuit.

The designated engine suppliers for the 2008 season are Toyota, Honda, Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes and Renault. Bridgestone has the contract on the tires for the 2008 racing season. More information about this particular type of sports auto racing can be found at “Formula1″.
