What damage happens to 320 mercedes clk if been sitting for 2 years, without being started?

I am interested in buying my neighbors 1998 mercedes clk 320 but It needs a transmission. I was wondering if any damage can be done th the engine from sitting for so long. If I put a transmission in it and drive it will I then have to worry about internal problems with the motor?

Anything rubber will probably need replacing from dry rot. Anything with fluid in it probably needs a good flushing too.

Do you know if anything was done to the car when it was parked? Was it properly prepared for storage or was the engine simply turned off 2 years ago? If it was just parked and never started again, above is correct. Many seals will have dried out and will likely start to leak if not replaced. The battery will have been drained by all the control units and have to be replaced. The fuel in the tank and in the lines will be stale and have to be drained, preferably before the engine is first started. There are a lot of things that could have gone wrong internally in the engine and don’t forget about potential external problems. What about some animals possibly nesting somewhere in the engine bay? I’ve seen the damage mice can cause to a wiring harness for example if one or more decide to make a home under the hood of a car.

Unless you get a really good price for this CLK, I’d pass and look for another CLK. The potential list of problems from sitting for 2 years is long and extensive.

If it needs a tramsmission there is no way to tell if there are more issues with the car. It’s very likely that there are other problems that need to be fixed..

It’s crazy to buy a car that needs a transmission. I can’t imagine buying someone else’s problem. Even if they are willing to sell it for $100. you’re taking a big risk. It could also needs catalytic converters, brakes, suspension and steering repair, major tune-up work, etc

Bad idea.

I would get all the fuel out of the tank and lines and clean the fuel pump. your also going to want to take out the spark plugs and spray some wd40 on them and give it new fluids like gas oil brake fluid and steering fluid but other than that the engine should be fine.
