?Vaginal Makeovers? Increase in Popularity

“Vaginal Makeovers” Increase in Popularity

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 13, 2010

Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Usha Rajagopal offers a new combination of procedures, labiaplasty + fat transfer + liposuction of the mons, = the “Vaginal Makeover.”

Most women can agree that the way they feel about their body has a lot to do about how they feel about themselves overall—and that includes the parts of them that mostly go unseen by anyone but them.

Although it may not be as frequently discussed as other common cosmetic procedures, the problem of asymmetrical or noticeably enlarged labia minora (inner lips of the vagina) can make women feel just as self-conscious or embarrassed about their appearance as sagging facial skin or drooping breasts can. This is especially true when it is accompanied by a disproportional bulginess of the mons pubis (pubic area), or if the labia majora (outer lips of the vagina) are thinning noticeably with age.

On its own, labiaplasty is designed solely to decrease the size or improve the appearance of a woman’s labia minora. However, Dr. Usha Rajagopal encounters these three issues (asymmetrical/enlarged labia minora, thinning labia majora, and oversized mons) together so frequently in her patients that it is becoming common practice for her to integrate their respective treatments into a combined, multi-step procedure, the “vaginal makeover.”

“When I perform a labiaplasty, I make incisions to remove any excess tissue, and I use absorbable sutures that generally dissolve within a few weeks,” says Dr. Rajagopal. “I always make great efforts to preserve the natural contour and sensitivity of the labia minora, and to minimize scarring as much as possible.”

Increasingly, however, Dr. Rajagopal is finding that many of her patients want more than a basic labiaplasty. As women age, and especially after having children or gaining or losing weight, their labia majora can lose their fullness and begin to look thin or deflated, and their mons sometimes becomes enlarged to the point that it protrudes noticeably outward, even through clothing. Women who experience these changes often wish to beautify not only their labia minora but the entirety of their vaginal area—including the labia majora and mons.

To correct the unwanted body changes brought on by age and childbirth, Dr. Rajagopal liposuctions the fat causing the mons to bulge, then remove any excess skin left afterward, tightening up the area. Some of the fat removed from the mons can then be used to bulk up the labia majora through subcutaneous injections into the fat layer. Conveniently, the liposuction and fat transfer can both be performed at the same time as a labiaplasty, which means there will be no need for a series of visits to the doctor in order to complete the procedures.

“Women deserve to feel comfortable with, not to mention proud of, each and every part of their body,” says Dr. Rajagopal. “By liposuctioning the mons and transferring some of the fat to the labia majora during labiaplasty, I have found that the desired results—symmetrical, balanced-looking labia and an evenly contoured, body-proportional mons—are achievable.”

Dr. Rajagopal is a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), and the California Society of Plastic Surgeons (CSPS), and performs a wide range of cosmetic surgeries and laser procedures. San Francisco Plastic Surgery & Laser Center is located at 490 Post St, Suite 430, near Union Square in San Francisco.
