If you are looking for a reader to do more than read your service lights on an Audi it may be a good buy. I tried to get the codes from a check engine light and it wouldn’t do a thing for me.

I would not recommend this for the Audi DIYer

I got this to check the codes on my 2005 A4 and 2000 WV Golf. It displays the codes by date and the back of the manual has all their causes.

Unfortunately the manual is completely useless in explaining how to get your codes. When I plugged it in, nothing matched what the manual said I should be seeing. It references buttons that aren’t even on the device! After some trial and error I was able to display the codes from my check engine, but no thanks to the instructions.

I have tried this scanner on all types of volkswagens and it will read them all no matter where they are made. This is not like other scan tools which can only read vw made for the US market only.

Bought this when I found I had an alternative to VAG software that would only run on PC’s and the expensive cable to connect to the VW’s port.

For the price its great.

I’m not a mechanic but it helps me determine if that CEL is something I need to take care of immediately, or its the simple ‘gas cap’ warning.

Buy it, keep it in your VW/Audi.
