The Hitch Bike Carrier Solution for Smaller vehicles

Although trailer hitch receivers are generally the found on larger vehicles with greater towing power, increasingly they are also found on smaller vehicles. For frequent cyclists who ride in pairs and that already have a receiver on their vehicle or are considering having one installed, Thule’s 990XT Doubletrack Platform Bike Hitch Rack is an excellent option. First, the Doubletrack is lightweight and low to the ground. This makes it easy for your car to carry and easy to load. It also fits both 1¼-inch receivers and 2-inch size models (with the included adapter). It accommodates up to two bikes making it a convenient accessory for riding with friends or family. And when not in use, it folds up and out of the way.

Easy, Secure Installation and Use

Along with the convenience of being lightweight, The Doubletrack is also easy and quick to install using a few simple tools provided, and is ultra secure. To install, first, slide the the 1½ inch hitch with attached backbone assembly into the receiver previously installed on your car and secure with the hitch pin. Use the 2 inch hitch adapter if need be. Next attach the upright tube and “frame hold” hook assembly to it with the bolts and Thule hitch tool provided. Mount the two combined bike tube and wheel holder assemblies. The Doubletrack is ready for your bikes.

When you are ready to mount your bikes press the release-button near the base of the upright tube and hook assembly and lower the hooks as far as possible. Place smaller of any two bikes to load on the inner carrier with wheels in wheel holders and handlebars to left side of vehicle. With cam lever in open position, position wheel trays on tube. Move cam lever to closed position to tighten wheel tray in position. The Doubletrack comes with adapters for use in securing road bikes. If need be use them now. Now lift the upright tube release latch and raise the upright tube and hook assembly until it clicks into position, then push the interior bike hook down with firm pressure until it is secure on the bike’s top tube. Load second bike with handle bars to the opposite side of of the first, securing bike hook and wheel straps in the same way as the first. Now you can lock the bikes to the tube and hook assembly using the lock cylinders provided and installed earlier. The entire Doubletrack carrier can also be locked to the receiver provided where it overlaps with the hitch with the included Snug-Tite lock. Finally, when not in use the Doubletrack can be folded up towards your vehicle with the push of the Hitch Switch lever and a light push, allowing you to park anywhere you normally would.

Thule will warranty all Thule brand car rack systems and its accessories manufactured by Thule during the time that an original retail purchaser owns the product. This warranty terminates if a purchaser transfers the product to any other person. No warranty is given for defects caused by normal wear and tear, cosmetic rust, scratches, accidents, unlawful vehicle operation, or modification of, or any types of repair of a load carrier system other than those authorized by Thule.
