Security Chain Whitestar Alloy Tire Traction Chain is designed to be used on passenger vehicles, including pickups and SUVs, also has the easiest installation and best all-around traction performance. It has been adapted to keep up with the ever increasing demand for products that can operate the typically small clearances allowed around the drive tires on today’s cars and light trucks. All Whitestar Alloy size meets the SAE class “S” clearance requirements. The cross chain link is made of manganese alloy steel, allowing them to be shorter and lighter than other tire chains. High Quality Chains,
Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of these chains. Call me old school but I grew up with a father that put “chains” on his truck, not cables or Z cables or some other “traction” device — these are Chains, they look like chains and they feel like chains when you drive. That said, they’re an upgrade to old school chains because they are easier to to install and keep tight, the design provides more traction than normal chains, and the chains are made of a tougher alloy.
There are a lot of products out there on the market from cables to chain products. These are kindof a hybrid product. Let me explain.
The inside of the chain is actually a cable coated in thick blue plastic that makes it easy for you to know what side goes on the inside and what side goes on the outside. The blue cable has a very easy attachment mechanism.
The cross members (what your tires ride on and strike the pavement) are made of a tough alloy chain which should give you longer wear.
The outside chains are made of what appears to be standard chain material. You get a repair kit btw for the chain links.
There is a rubber tensioner that you attach to the chains on the outside to keep them under tension (probably the most failure prone part of the contraption).
So other than that, just make sure that you get the right size and quite frankly know what you’re buying because there are a lot of products out there, some are right for you and some are not.
As chains, these are heavier than some of the cable products I’ve seen but they’re not as heavy as “old school” chains. I’m very happy with this purchase. You can tell it’s a high quality product that someone spent time improving to make your world easier (well as easy as your world is if you have to put chains on your truck and drive around in the middle of winter).

|Chains will not fit size – stated to fit by manufacturer,
It is obvious to me that the mfg. has never mounted these tire chains on my tire size of P275 60r 20. When you are getting ready to order the chains it states that ws1707 fits the aforementioned tire size for my truck. After having them shipped in I tired to mount them and they are a good 4″ to 6″ to short. I assume they went off of some spec for the tire size I needed and never physically mounted the chain to a tire that size. Now the tire size I have is the stock tire size for Dodge Ram 1500 – Big Horn. So, I get to deal with sending them back. I also should add that these are extremely light weight and I don’t feel that they will hold up in truck type applications. If you are buying a chain for a pickup then buy their truck tire chains.

|Easy to apply and very effective,
These things are great. Very easy to apply, especially since the car doesn’t have to be moved to apply them. Grip great in just about anything. I would reccomend buying an extra set of chain tensioners, since that seems to be about the most failure-prone part of the rig (this is true of all tire chains).
