They have been tracing down electrical problem ( supposedly) for 2 days now.

Well a thermostat and an electrical problem are about the same as tuna fish and a brick wall. No Idea what is going on with your car but labor is usually charged at $ 95 or so so you’re going to have a whopping bill whatever is going on.
