Q&A: How hard is it to find a 4 cylinder, 4 wheel drive, toyota 4runner with an automatic transmission?
Question by Alan A: How hard is it to find a 4 cylinder, 4 wheel drive, toyota 4runner with an automatic transmission?
Im trying to look for a 1990-93 or 1996-2000 4runner with a 4cyl, 4 wheel drive, automatic.
The reason i am looking for a 4cyl instead of a V6 becuase the V6 uses more gas than a 4 cylinder. I want a fuel efficient automatic transmission and reliable off road veichle.
It seems that its so hard to find a toyota 4runner used like this. All of the used 4runners i see for sale are V6.
V6=gas guzzler

If you really mean off-roading, you need a V6. The last thing you want to do on a hill is not have enough power to get up it, and have to get towed out. And if you are in the mud, having so much less power doesn’t help the fact that it’s being spread to all the wheels.

If 4 cyl.then it should be manual transmission for even better fuel efficiency.With an automatic,very poor pick up.
it’s not that bad on gas, and down the line you’ll be glad to have the extra power. It’s a shame that the domestic market has a shortage of compact turbo diesel engines for vehicles like the 4runner. Japanese manufacturers have been making excellent diesels for decades, however, very few make it to US soil.
Good luck finding the 4runner of your choice.
it is hard to find try looking at differnt type of classifed publictions.like auto trader.com,recycler.com
They don’t make the 4runner with a 4 cylinder only a V6 or V8.
