Because they feel like you are parking your car there at your own risk.

How do you know that parking lots don’t care? Can parking lots talk? Where is this talking parking lot?

It happens all over the USA too! It happened to me. They just don’t care. They figure, it’s not my car and if you pay or not, we’re not liable.

p.s Don’t move to the USA unless you favor a Socialistic Regime!

Because they don’t want to assume liability. Isn’t that obvious?

It’s not that they don’t CARE, it’s that they (and their insurance) don’t cover anything if damage occurs to your vehicle. With the size of many parking lots, it would be impossible/expensive to have someone work security over the entire parking lot. Your comprehensive coverage on your auto policy is designed to cover damage incurred to a parked vehicle.

Door “dings” are all too common in public parking lots. When possible, I try to park on an upper level, where more parking spots tend to be available, and I try to park with nobody next to me. It’s worth it to walk or take the elevator to the lower level if it helps to avoid having some moron ding my door.

Also, avoid parking next to older vehicles and vehicles with big doors (Cadillac, Lincoln), as the doors need to be opened wider for the driver and passengers to get out, increasing the chance for them to ding your car.

If I do have to park next to another car, I write down the type of car(s) next to me, their license plate number, and the color of the car. If I come back to my white car and notice a big dent with blue paint on it, I have the driver’s info and can use it to file a police report and insurance claim.

A paid parking spot is a paid parking spot, nothing more, regardless whether you live in Canada or the US. It doesn’t automatically mean they are repsonsible for your property, its just means they are renting that spot for you to park your car.
