Q&A: 2001 Mercedes Benz Cl 500 or Cl 600 or 2003 BMW M3?

Question by Coco A: 2001 Mercedes Benz Cl 500 or Cl 600 or 2003 BMW M3?
Ok so im car shopping and im really interested in the 2001 mercedes cl 500/600 and 2003 bmw m3. I cant decide between the cl 500 or 600. Is it worth the extra 4 cylinders for the 600? I want a fast sports car but the v12 may not be that good in gas mileage. On the other hand, the bmw m3 is really good looking and from what i’ve heard, it packs a punch also in performance. So can anyone help me decide which would be the best bet? the v8 or v12 or inline 6. Please and thank you.

2003 M3
0-60: 4.8 s
16/24 mpg city/hwy

2001 CL500
0-60: 6.0 s
16/23 mpg cityhwy

2001 CL600
0-60: 5.5 s
15/23 mpg city/hwy

The M3 has the speed and slight mpg advantage but the CL500 and CL600 will have more technology. The CL600 shuts off 6 cylinders when it doesn’t need them so it gets pretty much the same mpg to the other two, but is still slower than the M3 even with all 12 cylinders. And due to Mercedes’ crazy depreciation the CL500 is going to be the cheapest, while the M3 and CL600 are about the same. Reliability I’d say is a wash.

So depending on what you want the most I would go with:

Performance = M3
Price = CL500
Technology = CL600

But it sounds like you want performance so the M3 would be the way to go!
