@timppa600 Yes, but no R/T or stronger Version than the Mitsu V6. I got a 92 EU Saratoga, actually a rebadged Spirit ES with the big radiator and alternator, 4 wheel disk brakes and center console

dondmon96 says in November 13th 2011 at 1:20 am

@upnthemorninway2soon Yes, they were called the Daytona IROC R/Ts.

dondmon96 says in November 13th 2011 at 2:01 am

@TargetRender I know this was about a year ago, but if you do read this. My dad owned a 91 R/T back in the day and once got the chance to drag race a SHO of about the same year. The R/T was stock and the SHO was we guess stock. A video of the drag race wouldn’t produce a awesome race, the R/T pretty much walkes all over the SHO hands down. Those Spirits were awesome cars.

wasn’t this called the Chrysler Saratoga in Europe?

JDMAero says in November 13th 2011 at 3:47 am

That engine reminds me an awful lot of the Lancer Evo 1′s 4G63…

gajda1984 says in November 13th 2011 at 4:36 am

my gramps had a 1990 white spirit with the 2.5, 100 hp lol. though it was built to last that’s for sure!

@bajabusta

Well, the Dodge Daytona IROC R/T used this same motor/trans combo on the same basic platform, so in essence it was the two door version. They also sold a super rare version of the Lebaron Coupe with this powertrain combo in Mexico as the Phantom R/T IIRC.

@RockstarEMP

Lots of ‘em. Dodge Diplomat, Ford LTD, Ford LTD LX ( a seperate model from the LTD), Plymouth Fury, Chevrolet Impala, Chevrolet Caprice Classic, Chrysler 5th Avenue, Pontiac Parisianne, Dodge Aspen

Those are just a few. All of the above are four-door sedans, (a couple could be wagons, too), and all were available from the mid-80s to mid-90s for most.

There are plenty of coupes, also during that time: Mustang, Camaro, Mirada, for example.

@TargetRender – BTW I realize your post is kind old, BUT — if you’re still looking for a Spirit R/T (or a Daytona IROC R/T which had the same engine), make sure you get documentation that the cylinder head bolts have been swapped out. The head is aluminum, but Dodge used steel bolts to bolt it on. The problem is when the engine got hot the bolts would sometimes expand quicker than the head and then they’d crack the head. Chrysler issued a TSB to fix the problem, but not everyone had it done.

DroverChicago says in November 13th 2011 at 5:22 am

@TargetRender – I had an ’89 SHO. It was a fun car, but notwithstanding C&D’s results as listed by bajabusta, in the hands of a competent driver a Spirit R/T should blow the doors off an SHO. The SHO was an impressive car (well, it was a crappy car with a fantastic engine), but the Spirit R/T was a lot quicker. Back in the day the only sedan quicker through the 1/4 was the BMW M5.

DroverChicago says in November 13th 2011 at 5:46 am

@upnthemorninway2soon – Sort of. You could get this same engine in the Dodge Daytona for the 1992 and 1993 model years. The specific model designation was the Dodge Daytona IROC R/T. It is VERY important to look for the “R/T” designation/package because the standard Daytona IROC had a stupid Mitsubishi V6 in it that wasn’t nearly as quick.

@RockstarEMP yes.

so is this father of neon srt 4 ?

svtcarboy says in November 13th 2011 at 10:01 am

@Immortalcheese – The LeBaron coupe was an entirely different car.

svtcarboy says in November 13th 2011 at 10:14 am

@abarguy which completely angers me because they gave up before I had the ability to buy cars of this class, and now none exist. Hard to buy a new premium priced car at 17 years of age.

cheezgrated says in November 13th 2011 at 11:13 am

The shape of the Spirit reminds me of the Mitsubishi Galant.
