Lotus 2-Eleven: Track Driving Just Got Serious
Lotus 2-Eleven: Track Driving Just Got Serious
Article by Lauren Woods
Getting used to track driving could make the setting average. But when you are introduced to a car weighing just 670kg and with 252bhp, a power to weight ratio similar to that of a 1960′s Formula One car – you sure could not help but say – Now, this is getting serious!
The Lotus 2-Eleven sprints from zero to sixty in a matter of 3.8 seconds and boasts of a top speed of 155mph. The track day car costs £39,995 however for an additional £1,100, the Lotus will transform the car to become fully road legal.
The Lotus 2-Eleven is specially engineered to produce a cutting-edge performance coupled with functionality and safety features. The car is aimed at bringing out the true and most remembered tracking days – nerve-racking, exciting, and fun! The philosophy used is based on Colin Chapman’s ‘Performance Through Lightweight’ to the extreme.
“The Lotus 2-Eleven takes our core brand values to the extreme. It is the ultimate track day vehicle – not only phenomenally quick, but also very user-friendly. In short, the 2-Eleven delivers everything that the modern track day warrior and clubman racer demands, and more,” said Mike Kimberley, the Chief Executive Officer for Group Lotus plc.
The legendary Lotus ride and handling mated to advanced auto technology deliver superb track day car. It may not be equipped with AEM cold air intake or flashy car accessories but the experience is beyond compare. TopGear website has this to say: “March 1, 2007 Eleventh heaven In the world of Lotus, too extreme is probably just about right. So we’re guessing the boys from Hethel are pretty pleased with their 2-Eleven track car. Based on the Exige-S, the 2-Eleven is a pared-down, open-top version of that car and it’s intended mostly for track day junkies seeking the ultimate fix.”
The production of the car is scheduled to begin in April this year at the world-class facility of the automaker at Lotus Headquarters in Hethel, Norfolk, UK. The car’s build is set to be completed in selected Lotus Sport workshops. Each vehicle will be given a Lotus Sport build plate.
The car will be initially offered in Launch Edition specification only, which has a dynamic three-way Lotus Sport color scheme inclusive of a decal pack. The Launch Edition is available in two versions – Road Going Version will come fitted with front and rear lights, exhaust catalyst, single plane rear wing and other quality auto parts to comply with road legal requirements in the United Kingdom; and Track Only Version will come with an improved aerodynamics package including high downforce front splitter, high downforce single plane carbon fiber rear wing, brake lights and rear indicators, and FIA approved driver’s race seat.
