Italian Grand Prix – Despite the rain McLaren remains at the top

Despite the forecast of showers which started early in the afternoon at the Monza circuit most drivers were able to have a good amount of sunshine, convenient for the practices.

The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, also known by the Italian as the Pista Magica, is a perfect fusion of ability and speed, nevertheless, this track has also be witness to the worst accidents in the Formula One history. On Sunday September 9th, 2007 the Autodromo will hold the next scheduled Italian Grand Prix.

Among all drivers, McLaren’s team leader Fernando Alonso has been leading the lap timing and he seems to be looking at the championship more seriously than ever before. The 26-year-old Spaniard is very positive and confident to achieve excellent results. “The track is very famous for the Parabolica corner, alongside all the straights. It is flat out, and you really have to be on the edge and push the car hard, which is a real feeling of risk because of the light handling of the car.

“To get a quick lap time here, you have to be strong through Parabolica as it takes you back onto the longest straight of them all over the start / finish line.” stated Alonso.

With only five races remaining to the end of the F1 Championship Alonso is five points adrift of this British team mate while the Ferrari duo Massa and Raikkonen are within 16 points of the lead.
