Is Nissan a French company now?

Question by Oryx: Is Nissan a French company now?
I know they had some sort of alliance but is Nissan technically a French company now? Their headquarters is still in Japan, they were still founded by Japanese. So even if Renault had controlling shares would you still consider them French? They’re still two different companies with different products.
Please give me some sources if you can. Thanks.

No I don’t think so. You are right, Renault did have a stake in Nissan at one time, not sure if they still do but I consider Nissan to be a Japanese company.

No, Nissan is still Nissan. They are Japanese.

Ford owns 33.5 percent of Mazda, but Mazda’s are still Mazda made, Mazda designed, Japanese cars.

Volkswagen owns Lamborghini(Italian) and Bently(British), and Bugatti(French).

But they are still considered Italian/British/French cars.

NO! They are a multinational.

In my view, Renault and Nissan are separate companies which have the same CEO. He’s got 2 jobs. Otherwise they’re pretty much operationally separate.

The real odd thing – In both cases, the official company language for business is English. So they’re not so French in that department.

Nissan also produces INFINITI. Do you think that they are controlled by the French? It is feasible that there may be some French say in its production of heavy duty vehicles— but that may only be a collaboration of ideas. Daimler’s got Chrysler. Ford’s got Saab. Volkswagen’s got Porsche. BMW’s got Mini. The Dodgers aren’t in Brooklyn.
