Is it possible that my 2001 Saab 9-5 will not start if the battery in the key is dead?

Question by been there: Is it possible that my 2001 Saab 9-5 will not start if the battery in the key is dead?
My car (Saab 9-5) decided not to start after the battery for the remote key went dead could this prevent the car from starting?

no, if it is the correct key, the car should start even if the battery in the key is dead… i would call the dealer (for a situation like this, only dealers know their way around probs like these)

What do you think? Answer below!

No, the battery should be/is unrelated. This happened on our 2000 9-5. It was an intermittent problem that the car just did not want to start. Eventually after having the issue checked out, it turns out it was a problem in the alarm system, so I just had it disconnected—the key-less entry still works though. The only other electrical thing it can be is the immobilizer ring/system. Other than this, it may be a mechanical issue unrelated to your dead battery in your remote. Take it to an independent saab mechanic if you have one around because the dealer is just a rip off $ $ wise

No, the battery in the key only effects the remote control.

The transponder chip in the key gets its power from the car (like two coils in a transformer).

Look to see if the SID (Saab Info Display) says any thing like “key not accepted”,
If it does, then you have a key problem.
if not, start looking for another cause.
