What would it be? I would throw a beer can or some kind of debris on the track on the 199th lap of the 2001 Daytona 500 to keep the feild under the caution.

I would have kept the caution from coming out last week so jr would have run out of gas

If I could go back to 2001 I agree anything to prevent Dale Earnhardts death. Even if it cost Mikey and DAle Jr the win and runner up spots. The death of Adam Petty would be another one I would want undone

WooleyBooley again says in December 8th 2011 at 8:41 pm

I agree. Earnhardt and Adam Petty.

I would be the NASCAR official last week and not have called a caution for that incident last week so someone else would have won that deserved it.

I definately agree with Daytona 2001 being the biggest tragedy to date for me and I would pick that day for sure. My entire family were Sr. fans and that really broke all of our hearts.

I would also like to mention briefly the Kalitta family and ask all to pray for them. They’ll need support from as many people as possible. Love to all racing fans…….

i would stop adam petty from crashing instead of dale sr , dale had already had a great career adam never had a chance to get his started, i honestly wish none of these tragedy’s would have happened , but the tragedy of dale sr has made the sport alot safer for the drivers today.

I with you all the way TomG I was at that race, anything that could have stopped that awful accident, heck a beer can, a naked streaker, anything that could have kept that accident from happening. I was there and I can get teary eyed anytime I think about that race, it was kinda like that Don Maclean song American Pie, the day the music died, well I thought racing was gonna go away that day.. R.I.P Dale Sr.

Go Dale Jr & Hms

Just one is too hard to do. yes Dale and Adam. But Neil Bonnet, Alan Kulwicki, the Allison brothers, Tim Richmond…all of them. They all meant a great deal to someone. I know it’s all a part of racing’s risk and they died doing what they loved the best…but I sure wish that it all didn’t happen.

michaganstatefan08 says in December 8th 2011 at 11:34 pm

I would go back and have casey mears run out of gas in last years coke 600 so JJ yeley would have won the race

Gregory F says in December 8th 2011 at 11:44 pm

I would stop Doug Kileta from taking a run today.

PJ 88 Fan says in December 9th 2011 at 12:22 am

Two things, Dale Senior’s and Adam Petty’s deaths. Racing changed after that. :~{

As a race fan group, please keep the Kalitta family in your prayers also.

I do not know how I could pick just one. I was a fan of Dale Sr. and many other race drivers.

Well, although many things have happened to alter Nascar racing and there have been many terrible losses in the sport, I will have to agree that the one thing I would change if I could is Dale Earnhardt’s death. But!!!! There are reasons we all don’t understand for so many things, like Adam Petty, it’s really hard to put a finger on just one major occurrence in racing.

Stop the last crash that took Dale Sr’s life away.

Tina says in December 9th 2011 at 2:39 am

There are so many lives that were important to this sport. Drivers, and NASCAR officials. Each were very important in their own way and each was a tragedy.

The one though that stands out most in my time of watching NASCAR is Dale Sr. I was a fan of Dale Jr and not of Sr at the time of his death but his tragedy had a large influence on NASCAR, his family, and his fans as well as his on track rivals and people who weren’t even his fans.

I was completely stunned by the incident. I never wanted to see it or expected to see what happened. To this day I still like to think it was all fake and he is living it up somewhere where all the superstars go to get away for peace of mind like some island with Elvis … Crazy isn’t it?… but then it’s back to reality. It happened…!!!

Dale H says in December 9th 2011 at 3:03 am

I couldn’t pick one event. I would like to stop any event that led to the death of a driver. But yeah, I would have liked to have thrown something out on the track that day.

RIP: Dale, Sr., Neil Bonnett, Tiny Lund, Fireball Roberts, Davey Allison, Alan Kulwicki, Clifford Allison, Adam Petty, Kenny Irwin, Jr., Alexander Blaise, and all the others.

rustyfan says in December 9th 2011 at 3:44 am

I’m just glad I can’t, because I would never be able to pick just one. We have lost so many good drivers, and not just in NASCAR, but all of motorsports. RIP to all of them.

Jim M says in December 9th 2011 at 4:51 am

Where would I begin? Too many are gone….Adam Petty, Kenny Irwin, Dale Sr., Eric Martin, Niel Bonnett, Davey A. Kulwicki, and many, many more.
I’m thankful that in NASCAR, we haven’t had to say good-bye in this way for quite some time.

Superdave(lost a bet!) says in December 9th 2011 at 5:49 am

Just one Tom? If I was able I would try to stop all of them. Since you said one, I will go with Dale Sr in 2001. A red flag because of rain with 198 to go would have been nice but since I cannot do that I would have throwed everything but the kitchen sink out on the track to stop it.

How come no one mentioned the 2004 Hendrick Motorsport’s plane crash that took 10 lives.

I would prevent that from happening somehow. Little miss Ricki Hendrick will never personally know her daddy and that is HORRID.

Also the deaths of Adam Petty, Blaise Alexander (a hometown boy from about an hour away), Davey Allison, Allan Kulwicki, Clifford Allison, Niel Bonnett, etc, all of the deaths.

P.S. Sorry if i spelled any names wrong.

k97city says in December 9th 2011 at 6:44 am

Scott Kalitta.
awful.

Gigi says in December 9th 2011 at 7:35 am

Adam Petty.

Storm says in December 9th 2011 at 8:34 am

I would stop Alan Kulwicki from getting on that plane April 1, 1993…

Matt says in December 9th 2011 at 8:53 am

If you had to force me to pick three, I’d choose:

1. Ayrton Senna’s crash
2. Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s crash
3. Adam Petty’s crash
