i just bought a 2000 audi 2.7 a6 does anybody have any suggestions on how to increase the performance safely? Or any aftermarket ideas?

You can always just chip it. its going to cost you at least $500 and your going to have to run on 93 octane all the time but it should give you what you are looking for. Try GIAC or APR, they do a lot for Audis.
APR does have an ECU upgrade which will run you about $600 US. I would advise against it. Since the vehicle is a 2000, it probably has fairly high mileage. These ECU upgrades increase boost which in turn will wear out parts faster than stock boost. As you probably know the 2.7t is a bi-turbo engine and it is not fun at all to replace anything on (especially turbos). I have done this and you have to drop the whole engine and trans through the bottom of the car (extremely time consuming and expensive).
