How much would it cost to fix up this subaru GL Wagon?

Question by fly_or_die2: How much would it cost to fix up this subaru GL Wagon?
I was browsing Craigslist, and I came upon a 1987 Subaru GL 4×4 Wagon.
Here is what is wrong with it:
“Has a hole in the valve cover and the clutch slips.”
How much would that cost to fix up?
More detail. The subaru is a fixer uper according to the ad, if that helps.

It’s not what they’re telling you so much as what they aren’t telling you. What came loose and created the hole in the valve cover? And has that been fixed. The valve cover will require replacement. Beat up valve covers tend to leak and oil tends to burn when it drips down on the exhaust. You can check with a salvage yard for the price ion the valve cover. Clutch replacement is a bit more costly. By the ti,e a clutch starts slipping on an old car you need a clutch disk, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing and a resurface of or a new flywheel depending on how long they’ve let it slip and how much damage has been done. You can check the parts prices at any Auto parts store. Figure 4 to 5 hours labor at whatever the going rate is in your area. Not cheap by any means.

a hole in the valve cover? is that a fasteners hole or a actual crack hole. If so, that may imply that the engine was somewhat blown off, you can replace the valve cover with aftermarket or recycle parts for around 50-100 in USA.

The Clutch slips, assuming is repairable, you may spend around 80 bucks to repair it. But if the pressure, clutch discs, and those connections are all mess up, you may end up fixing it for around 400-1000 (based on the parts, you may not able to find these parts from subaru except aftermarket or remanufacture parts).
