How many miles can a 1996 Jaguar XJS have before it gives you problems?

We are looking to buy a used 1996 Jaguar XJS but we aren’t sure. How many miles can they hold before they give you mechanical problems?

15-20k. So…don’t cross that bridge over the river thames unless you’re carrying comical sacks of money.

Any car can in theory have problems when it comes out of the factory.
I delivered Dodge Aspens many years ago and one had a blown head gasket with only 3 miles on the odometer.
If the car has had routine maintainance and been taken care of there is a very good possibility that it could go 200,000 miles or more but there is never a guarantee of that.

I’m really not too sure how to answer this question. Cars don’t have a certain mileage before they break down. It really depends on the maintenance that’s been done on the vehicle, and depends on how well the previous owner took care of it. I personally wouldn’t go buy a vehicle with 300,000 miles on it, but like I said… it all depends on the vehicle and that vehicle’s history. If in doubt, you could also get a CarFAX, but I’m not so sure that it would neccessarily tell you what you’re looking for. Good luck!

I suppose you know this Jag has the V-12 motor ?? I have considered getting one of these also from time to time …… but I think you would have to be mechanically inclined to own one of these, unless money is no object.

I think the trick here with this Jag is WHO you buy it from. These are special animals … and they take some understanding and the right kind of care to live with …… so if the person you are getting it from has all the service records, and kept the car garaged all the time, and so on, then perhaps I might get it …..

The real, true Jaguar enthusiast will have done things like changing all the fuel lines and re-sealing the motor ….. he would have done a lot of deep service items, and be proud to share that with you. That is what I would be looking for on this …..

the car will talk to you when you drive it ….. it has to “feel” just right, if you know what I mean … so if possible, I would try to drive several of these so you can get the correct feel for it …..

hope this helps
