How do I remove map lights and cargo light on a 2000 Ford Explorer/Mercury Mountaineer?

Question by theusaloveitorleaveit: How do I remove map lights and cargo light on a 2000 Ford Explorer/Mercury Mountaineer?
I own a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer and I’m assuming it’s the same interior lighting wise as a 2000 Ford Explorer. I need to know how to remove the two map lights in the front. I took off the plastic lense cover and tried everything I could think of and couldn’t figure out how to remove the two map lights. Also in the very back I couldn’t figure out how to get the plastic cover off the rear cargo light.
I am simply replacing the bulbs with some brighter, better qaulity bulbs. I am not permantly removing the lights.

You are going to have to remove the map/Dome assy from the roof. Once that you do this you will have access to the bulbs. You may have to remove the brackets holding the reflective tin in place.
