How do I buy a used vehicle from a private party which autocheck says is leased?

Question by duckman: How do I buy a used vehicle from a private party which autocheck says is leased?
I saw a craigslist ad for a used vehicle being sold by a private party. After running autocheck on the VIN I see REGISTRATION EVENT/RENEWAL (Leased Vehicle) and TITLE (Lien Reported). Does that mean the vehicle is still under a lease agreement? Can it still be sold and how would I go about buying it?

If the seller has a clear title, its fine.

Carcheck/carfax has set back car buying by 20 years by creating unreasonable fear in people.

Another person that has not heard of the many problems with craglist – people have posed as “sellers” and robbed the buyers at gunpoint; many vehicles have problems, like the one you are looking at – stay away and stick with more legit sites like Autotrader and even regular car dealers :}

if there is a lien reported on the car then that car is still under lease unless its just a mechanical lien which means he got some work done on his car and not paid them…either way u will not be able to transfer the title on to your name if there is a lien on it……the only way you can do it is if the guy pays off whoever he owes……..this may not b scam…the guy must be planning to pay off with the money u give him… one of my buddies did that…….so i would sujjest u to call the guy and ask him about the lien.if he says he was planning to pay it off with your money…u can ask him to meet you at the dealership and get the paper work done while you are there……DO NOT GIVE HIM ANY MONEY IF HE SAYS HE WILL GO TO THE DEALERSHIP HIMSELF AND PAY IT………..good luck
