Five Chrysler Vehicles Awarded 2011 Top Safety Picks By Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

Each year, the IIHS rates vehicles and awards the ones that are the best at protecting drivers and passengers. Evaluations are performed for front, side, rear, and rollover crashes.

To be in the running, vehicles need to have an electronic stability control system, which dramatically reduces crash risks. All 5 of the Chrysler vehicles that were chosen as “Top Picks” have electronic stability control come standard in the 2011 models.

The 2011 Chrysler 200 and Jeep Grand Cherokee are both new to the list of Top Safety Picks. When choosing the Jeep Grand Cherokee, IIHS reviewers added that the torso airbags increased side crash protection, which is only one of a broad list of safety features offered by the vehicle. The 200 is Chrysler’s newest midsize sedan.

This is the third year in a row that Dodge Avenger and Journey have shown up on the list of Top Safety Picks. It is the second year straight the Jeep Patriot was chosen as a Top Pick. Scott Kunselman, Senior VP of Engineering at Chrysler, released this statement:

This recognition by the IIHS underscores our commitment to safety across all vehicle segments. The vehicles selected from Chrysler all have common safety features such as anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control systems, head restraints for seats, and side curtain airbags. They are all also brand new models or have been significantly re-designed in the 2011 model.
