Fiat India plans to export cars to SAARC nations

The Indian arm of Italy based leading car maker Fiat Motors, is now eying to export its cars to the SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) nations, in a bid to increase its overall export figures.Fiat Linea Mr Tarun Khanna, Marketing Head of the company has recently stated that the company is looking to export its popular cars like Fiat Linea and Fiat Punto to the SAARC nations including Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh as these are right hand driving countries. He was speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of the launch of a new variant of Fiat Punto in the Indian market.

So far, the company has exported around 2,000 units of its cars to the South-African market from India that comprises of 1,100 units of Punto, 360 units of Linea and 650 units of Palio. According to Mr Khanna, the company started exporting last year and So far it has exported only to South Africa. Fiat India, a joint venture between Tata Motors and Fiat, uses the Tata’s network for the sales of its cars across India. The company has been doing a great work in the Indian automobile market and needs to mention on that front.

Further elaborating on the company’s plans for the Indian market, Mr Khanna said that the company was looking to roll out high powered version of Linea and CNG Punto after launching two variants of Grand Punto this year. He added that last year, the company sold 24,000 units and in this fiscal, it is looking to sell 40,000 units, which will include new variants. However, he remained quiet on the timeline of launch of these cars in India.

In the last six months, the company has been selling about 2,100 units monthly on an average. Fiat India is aiming to achieve a growth of 60 percent to 40,000 units for the year 2010.
