Driving Lessons & Tire Care : How to Drive a Car With Manual Transmission

Driving a car with manual transmission requires a good balance between engine power and the throttle, as the clutch is pressed to disengage the engine power during gear shifts, and it is gently released while the gas pedal is pressed. Drive a manual transmission vehicle with instructions from an ASE-certified technician in this free video on driving.

duartes07 says in March 10th 2011 at 9:27 pm

LIAR YOU DON’T PRESS THE CLUCTH AFTER ENGAGING 2nd, YOU JUST RELEASE IT AFTER THE GEAR IS IN PLACE. Why do americans prefer so much the auto to manual and gas to diesel? Please leave your comments to my comment =)

I agree that everyone should know how to drive a manual transmission and do it properly so as not to wear out the clutch or the release bearing with normal use. At the same time, modern auto transmissions are very efficient and if someone could convince Americans of the logic of having clutch packs programmed for greater clamping force they would last even longer. I’ve never been a fan of automatic transmissions. Everyone in my family over 35 knows how to drive a stick but don’t own one.

MTXSHO9732vV8SHO says in March 11th 2011 at 6:11 am

I didn’t take your comment out of context. I simply explained to you the reasons why owning a manual transmission can be very impractical in America. It truly doesn’t matter to me if you respect Americans or not. Perhaps you don’t know that it is very possible to get stuck in a traffic jam at 2oo a.m. in the morning in Los Angeles any given night of the week. You may not know that others drive 2 hours each way averaging between 50 and 70 miles an hour each day as their work commute.

joejedlicka says in March 11th 2011 at 6:23 am

@NilsMcCloud That should be required in the USA as well! Increased fuel efficiency and reliability, as well as decreased cost to purchase and repair. What more could one ask for? :)

NilsMcCloud says in March 11th 2011 at 6:26 am

@MTXSHO9732vV8SHO That’s number three who completely took my comment out of context. I didn’t mean no disrespect.

MTXSHO9732vV8SHO says in March 11th 2011 at 6:31 am

@NilsMcCloud Calm down Mika Hakkinen. Actually, driving a manual transmission car in America through rush hour traffic can be very inconvenient unless you know how to ‘float’ gears like me. There are lots of people that know how to drive a manual transmission car here. It stands to reason because there are so many people that own motorcycles which has related shifting disciplines. Not many people want to be stuck shifting between N-1-2 for an hour. I own 2, 5 speed cars and one auto trans car.

Gaara5657 says in March 11th 2011 at 7:08 am

@NilsMcCloud

the 1st fact is that automatic transmission uses more gasoline
the 2nd fact is that american people ale lazy fatasses
the 3rd fact is that in USA gasoline price is lower than in europe

when you connect these 3 fact together you will surely find out why americans use automatic transmission
