Not exactly – the Lotus uses the higher performance 1.8 that was in the last Celica GTS and the Matrix GSR. It’s somewhat more powerful in the Lotus, I believe it’s perhaps due to tuning and lower restriction exhaust, but it is pretty much the same engine.

I don’t believe Toyota puts that in the Corolla though.

mathematicaly is the same, except that the lotus is a high performance engine, it comes with a performance chip and it’s got more hp, but in general lines it would come to be the same engine, yeah

Yes, it is the same basic engine. ..and No, because Lotus makes alot of performance mods to the engine to meet their performance standards.

The GT-S, the Corolla and the Elise all share the same block, crank, etc., but the GT-S and the Elise have a different cylinder head which incorporates hydraulically controlled extra valve lift that comes in at higher RPM. Lotus may do extra things and have different programming, but that is the essence of the extra power that they utilize.
Hope this helps.

Kinda, sorta.

But I don’t see any 2,000lb. rear-wheel drive Corollas. :)
