Tricky question, i claimed a broken laptop screen off my house insurance after the wind took the door and slammed the door shut which in turn caused my laptop to fall and break the screen. Apple Care should definitely fix it for you as you paid for the cover and it was obviously out of your hands to avoid this happening so i would guess they should fix it no problem.

look at the terms of the warranty
Why aren’t you directing this question to Apple? Unless someone out there has had the same thing happen to them, ( now what are the chances of that? ), then I’d be contacting Apple and get their opinion. If Apple doesn’t cover it then it’s possible the computer would be covered by the auto insurance as property damaged by the accident.
