Concept cars- Why do they ALWAYS look different IF they make production?

I mean like the awesome looks of a concept car that makes it to production- why do they always change the look at the time of production? Why can’t or why don’t they just leave the futuristic looking bodies?

good question..

i think that would probably raise the price like crazy…

or maybe they dont want the “best” to become “average”..

Because concept cars have no “rules”. Actual production cars have to meet many requirements for safety that the concept car does not. Also, many of those futuristic bodies just aren’t practical from a cost standpoint.

There have been many concept cars that have made it to production without many changes though, the Viper and Prowler in the 90′s, and the new Camaro coming out next year is going to look very much like the concept car.

Both of the other answers are part of the answer.
Another is that the concept car had some features that were not accepted by enough of the target market. So in order to improve appeal the points of contention were changed.

Concept cars are one-offs that are usually made by hand. These techniques are not suitable for mass production. Instead, machines such as presses are used that are not capable of such complex designs. In addition to limited techniques, concept cars are not intended to be certified for crash protection. Furthermore, concept cars often do not have any working mechanical components. Some design elements do not allow proper clearance for parts. In essence, concept cars are meant to show off new technology or design languages. They are meant to raise interest. If the production car was the concept, who would be interested?
