360-Degree Protection from Surveillance and Safety Hazards
Using advanced technology, the iRadar provides you with full 360-degree radar and laser detection. This means you’ll be covered on all sides of your vehicle, without any gaps or blind spots. For every signal that it detects, the iRadar emits a clear alert tone, indicating the location and proximity of the threat.

City and Highway Modes Filter Out False Alerts
The iRadar features two different modes: city and highway. If you’re driving in an urban area, you can toggle to city mode to filter out annoying false signals caused by automatic doorways. If you’re traveling at high speeds, toggle to highway mode and get higher detection sensitivity and immediate alerts.

Exclusive Android App Unlocks Enhanced Features
When paired with an Android smartphone, the iRadar offers even better detection service. Using an exclusive, free-to-download Android app, you can wirelessly link your iRadar to your smartphone and enjoy enhanced features. The app provides you with a visual display of your alerts, telling you both the type of alert and its proximity to you. It also displays a history of your alerts on a map, allowing you to see the time and location of each detected signal.

The iRadar app also gives you access to AURA, Cobra’s exclusive camera and driving hazard database. AURA uses GPS technology to alert you of photo-enforced areas as you approach them. The alerts are delivered based on your speed: The faster you are going, the more advanced the warning is. This gives you ample time to react and slow down. The database boasts tens of thousands of entries and is updated every 12 hours by Cobra’s team.

The Cobra iRadar Detection System is backed by a limited one-year warranty.

Brilliant concept with a lot of glitches, November 14, 2010
By
Keola (Los Angeles, CA) –

The Good:
- Brilliant concept by using the iPhone as a display unit
- Excellent display: speedometer, car voltage, compass.
- Easy to read while driving (I mounted it below my factory GPS unit)
- Easy installation of iRadar app
- Locations of Photo Radar
- Power adapter with iPhone power USB plug in

The Bad:
- Too many false alarms, X & K bands
- Ka alert did not beep until cop was in sight, about 50 yards
- Lack of sunvisor clip
- Black mirror finish scratces very easily

The Ugly:
- Display often resets to iPhone home screen, between 20 minutes to an hour
- Have to reset functions to your liking after display resets to iPhone home screen; city/highway mode, turn on/off multiple bands, auto mute etc.
- Power cord is too short for a cleaner installation.

I have tested the iRadar for 2 road trips in the last 10 days (LA to San Diego and LA to Las Vegas) and both were quite frustrating experiences. Cobra hits home with the concept but needs many tweeking on the unit. Did they even have engineers used them for a few weeks before retailing them? I would check back with Cobra after 2 years, and perhaps most glitches will be gone by then

Save your time and money, buy a higher end radar detector to save you from speeding tickets. This unit looks cool and that’s about it.

Do NOT buy this detector until they update the iPhone app!!!, December 2, 2010
By

Do a little research before you purchase this radar detector. Don’t buy this for someone for Christmas. They WILL be disappointed unless the promised app update fixes all of the problems.

I have personally had this unit in my car for well over a month. It worked well for about the first week, maybe two. After that, it was nearly useless. The detector intermittently communicates with the iPhone which disables your visual alerts so that the detector basically becomes a stand-alone radar detector. So, when the detector beeps, it’s a guessing game as to what the detector is detecting, unless you can memorize the different beeps. Since there is no users manual included with the unit, you have to guess and then remember the different types of beeps if you want to know what the detector is picking up. From my count, there are at least 8 different types of beeps, probably more.

Just look at Cobra’s own website to see the frustrations that customers are having. [...].
There is supposedly an app update in the works, but even that is questionable based on Cobra’s statements.

All I am saying is DO NOT buy this detector UNTIL the app update becomes available. Then go check the Cobra forums again to see if the update fixed this product.

***UPDATE***
I still cannot recommend this product. Cobra has come out with two new app updates since I posted my review and neither update fixed ANYTHING! As a matter of fact, it added a new bug that I won’t go into. Cobra is completely clueless as to why this prodcut doesn’t work.

All I ask is that, if you are looking at buying this product, go to Cobra’s iRadar community forum website and read the problems we are having.

Great new tech application for iphone/ipod users at reasonable price, October 27, 2010

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What’s this?)

I believe this is the first combination of 360 radar detection with visual mapping and controls through an iphone/ipad running an app. The relatively low price plus the visual coordination/control/mapping functions of the app on the iphone/ipod make this an attractive purchase for someone who already owns either an iphone or an ipod. Be aware, however, that some features are ONLY available on the iphone and NOT the ipod. Specifically, location based alerts used for red-light cameras and GPS settings are only available for the iphone. In practical terms, this means you really should use this device with an iphone.

Why not five stars then? Two reasons: 1) The AURA database used for mapping the stoplight cameras, while claiming updates every 12 hours has been found to be in actuality far less often updated than its main competitor, the Escort Defender database and moreover, tends to leave previous sites in the database even after they are no longer active. 2) The actual distance/sensitivity for Cobra’s radar detection is not as good as the high-end (and far pricier of course) units available from a couple of its competitors.

Of course, no one should be a speed demon just because “no one is looking” but if you travel with a slightly heavy foot and want to reduce your risk of paying pricey tickets, this is a cost-effective way of using leading-edge technology.
