Car care question regarding AC?

Question by blueSquirt: Car care question regarding AC?
I have a VW Passat & I have a habit of turning the AC on & off every 15 mins. Because I keep getting hold & cold like that. Can never seem to settle at the right temperature. Sometimes, I just do it coz sub-conciously I am thinking that it’s less pressure for the car. What can I do to prolong the car AC life and car engine life from AC operating point of view.

I agree with John St.Louis but if you live in a hot area like Arizona(I live there) I would recommend opening the windows or
Ac depends if you want to use up your battery or gas.If you live in a cold area like Washington state (my birth state) I would recommend Leaving the windows up and Using the Ac Heater for a bit turning it off when it starts to get to warm wait about 20 minutes then turn it on again

a/c is not someting that u can use up like gas. It just eventually seeps out of the seals in ur system. You actually do urself more harm than good by not running the a/c as the rubber seals in the system don’t get any oil (which is already in the freon) and dry out quicker. So plz feel free to run ur a/c as much as u want.

Just do the normal operations. If the weather is cool enough to roll down the windows then go ahead, why not. But if it’s too hot for you to handle then turn the A/C on. All the A/C is going to do is slow your car down while it’s being driven, it lags it that all. It doesn’t affect in any way. If your worried about the engine, then the A/C on or off is the least of your worries. You need to worry about the inside of your engine. Like making sure your changing that oil and using the expensive brands so those pistons and rings stay lubed always, Mobile Synthetic is the best. You also better make sure the coolant is being replaced once a year as well. Your a/c will go out before your engine will because it’s a component and not part of the engine. If the a/c is broken your car will still run. The important part is changing that oil and not treating your car badley like going fast, speeding, and flooring it. You do those things and your putting your engine under intense load. If you drive like your supposed to then it will last a very long time and you’ll also be safe. Now to maintane your A/C you should turn it on in the winter at least once a month for 15min. Engine designers did not add A/C on the cars to make the engine go bad, why would we even do that. If that were the case then we wouldn’t even allow A/C in the car. For others tell me when was the last time you heard that the A/C was the cause of the engine going out? Nothing, right. It has nothing to do with it! How is the A/C going to throw a piston rod? and or make rings go bad, now oil can do that. Best Of Luck! and change that oil always!
