Can i bring a Alfa Romeo to America?

Since Alfa’s are not sold in America, what procedures would i need to go through to get one shipped here?

And if i wanted to drive it around America, what would i have to do to make it legal?

You would need to get it to meet EPA and DOT requirements for its model year. EPA has to do with emission standards while DOT has to do with safety and crash standards. There are a lot of DOT regulations governing items such as bumpers, headlights, backlights, sidelights, various information stickers and plaques, instrument panel, seat belts etc. Since there is probably no data on your car’s crash characteristics, the DOT may insist on making you conduct a crash test at your own cost to prove the car meets US crash requirements. Since you are probably more interested in driving your car than crashing it, I recommend you should do a lot more research before shipping your car because the EPA, DOT or both may impound your car on arrival and give you the option to either ship it out of the US or they will crash it for you and require you to pay the costs. In short, DON’T DO IT! Now if you must drive an Alfa while in the US, you should consider buying one locally instead of importing one. There are plenty of reasonably priced well taken care of old Alfas in the US that can be bought for about the cost of shipping and registering one from abroad. Not having to deal with all the bureaucratic headache and red tape is a bonus.
