Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy-Five Series Limousines 1937-1987 Photo Archive

Product Description

From the late 1930s through the mid-1980s, it was truly the Cadillac of Cadillacs—the car of choice for the titans of American business, government and the entertainment industry. The stately long-wheelbase Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy-Five Eight-Passenger Sedan and Imperial Limousine occupied an exalted niche at the very pinnacle of the automotive pecking order in the U.S. and abroad. Whatever the destination—embassy, corporate head office, hotel, airport or Hollywood red carpet—when one arrived in a Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy-Five, one had truly arrived! Introduced in 1937, Cadillac’s new Series 75 included 11 Fleetwood body styles ranging from coupes and convertibles to a seven-passenger touring sedan. In 1938, the restyled Series 75 got what was destined to become its signature body style —a severely formal long-wheelbase sedan and companion limousine. Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy-Five business sedans and limousines quickly won favor with commercial livery operators and funeral directors, challenging rival Packard’s long domination of this small but prestigious market. By 1941 the Fleetwood Seventy-Five name was reserved exclusively for General Motors Corporation’s flagship car—the long-wheelbase formal sedan and companion limousine with glass division.

This is another great book by Thomas A. McPherson. I highly recommend it to

all PCS members, classic car collectors and restorers, and all who are interested

in the Cadillac Autos. Great photos.

A book of nice large-scale photos of these automobiles. It is called a “photo archive” consequentially little new information is presented, and there are few views of the sumptuous interiors. In the captions the authors feel compelled to repeat ad nauseam the fact that these were the only production limousines made in the United States and that they were the choice of the elite, as if they needed to justify the automobiles existence. However little information is provided as to how they were actually built, how for instance were body panels from production Cadillac’s integrated into these custom bodies? In the years when Cadillac styling incorporated dramatic downward sweeping side lines how did they manage to stretch the body and yet still magically preserve this continuous sweep? What options were available? What colors? Was air suspension used? Not much inquisitive detail is explored that could have expanded the understanding of the Series 75.

I was hoping a book about the Cadillac Fleetwood Series Seventy-Fives would be written.

This one has high quality paper, great photos and detailed captions. Well worth it for an enthusiast of these executive-type cars.
