Am I required to send my Infiniti QX56 to the dealer for maintenance?

Question by Denny: Am I required to send my Infiniti QX56 to the dealer for maintenance?
I have an Infiniti QX56 2008 model. The Maintenance light recently lighted up, but I don’t have time in this time of year to get it serviced at the Dealership. I have a family trip coming up soon, and I am afraid that my car engine will lock down in the middle of our trip. This has happened to my Mercedes-Benz sedan before. The engine would lock down if I didn’t get the car maintained. Is my Infiniti SUV the same way as my mercedes benz?

Answer by not 2 B fooled
If it is under a warranty, look at the warranty paperwork; if not, then you can take it anywhere. Also, if it is the maintenance light (and not the check engine light – two different things), then it is just a reminder of an item that needs to be replaced…usually the oil change is due

What year was the Mercedes? The federal government passed laws that says you can take your car anywhere to have it serviced, and the warranty will still have to be honored. This business of your car shutting down because of a service lite, well I think that’s illegal. Your manual would point out mileage limitations on your service lite, if there is such a thing. You can also ask the dealer, and if you think they’re bull crapping you, tell them to put it in writing. Places like this have to be licensed by the state DMV, and they can’t operate if they don’t have that. Get it in writing
