My wife recently gave me a new iPod Nano. I wanted to use it in my car but, my old FM transmitter stopped working. I set out to find a new transmitter that will be compatible and one that in particular, connected to the iPod via the headphone jack. I have bought several different FM transmitters that connected to the bottom connector of the iPod that didn’t work very well in Los Angeles. The only one that did work was the NewerTech RoadTrip FM that just had the headphone connector. However, it broke and it is not sold anymore.

Decided to give the AllKit FM Transmitter a try. I figure for less than $8 bucks, what the heck. Well, I’ve been using it for about a month now and it works great, even with the busy airways here in Los Angeles. Also used it on a five hour road trip to Carmel and it worked like a champ. The sound is pretty good. Not as good as a directly connected iPod but, unfortunately, I bought my Outback one year early and I don’t feel like taking apart my whole console and using a soldering iron on my stereo to add an aux jack.

I haven’t tried the remote yet but, I’ll give it a try soon. I usually just put my iPod on shuffle so I usually don’t touch it while driving. The unit itself feels a little flimsy and the side clamps are already jammed but, for what I paid, I’m just glad I can listen to my new iPod while I drive around LA county. For about $14.00 total including shipping, this is a bargain. My $40 plus monster FM transmitter never worked as good.

This thing works like a charm. I plug my iTouch into it; it securely holds it; it charges it and it plays my tunes through my stereo. I originally purchased it to charge my iTouch while using it as a GPS. in my car there are 2 cigarette lighter ports. This now permanently occupies one of them.

This is a replacement for apparently the previous model. I tried a few other products that were not powered through my trucks power adaptor and they were so weak that all I ever heard was static–especially the ones at the Apple Store. Unlike those, this item sends a really clear signal and around my area I never need to change the frequency. Unlike other models, I can actually make and take calls through it using the radio speakers. I’ve even used it used it for conference calls though people in the backseat have to really speak up to be heard.

I had to get a new one because the power cord on my old one eventually fell apart rendering it inoperable. The new power cord and connections not only seem to be better built, but allow the phone to be moved in positions that were difficult with the old model.

On the other hand…yeah it has a remote. At least for my iPhone it doesn’t do anything I can’t do using the phone. I’ve only attempted to use the remote two times and both times it caused the current song to loop indefinitely or until I rebooted the phone. Maybe it works for iPods.

The most iratating feature that was added from the previous model is that when you power down your vehicle it resets itself to 88.1 so you have to retune the transmitter to your desired frequency everytime you start your vehicle. The old model somehow always managed to come up on the last frequency it was on when I turn my truck off.
