Works fine as a replacement,
This is the second tailgate latch that has been installed in our 2000 Sienna. The first one broke about 5 years ago and I had the Toyota dealer replace it while other work was going on. The design seems fairly flawed to me, being plastic and all. This time around I decided to do the work myself, saving labor costs and buying this replacment part for something like 20% of the cost at a dealership (when adding in shipping, which is really out of line for this part). The part was very easy to install and I’m up and running again. If you have any mechanical ability this is a very economical way to go. You will save a substantial amount of money and it doesn’t take more than half an hour to do the installation.

|Lift Gate handle (Had to modify to make it work),
I pulled out the old one and put in the new only to find out that the cable was too long and must have stretched. I tried to add a nylon spacer at the end of the cable but the latch still wouldn’t release very easy. I could feel some give in the cable as I tried to slowly squeeze open the lift gate, like something was flexing. I figured a metal spacer would give less flex so I took off the nylon spacer and crimped on a cylinder metal stop sleeve right in front of the metal ball at the end of the cable. This helped a lot but I still felt some flexing in the handle. I then took it off again and compared the old handle to the new handle with more scrutiny. I noticed the new handle’s spring was loose compared to the old handle’s spring. So I took off the plastic latching part of the new handle (the part that was broken on my old one) and put it on the old assembly. This did the trick. An old tight spring with a new plastic latch. I would suggest the manufacture make sure their spring and rivet are good and tight before they ship or it could cause extra flex on the plastic resulting in it breaking.

|Toyota Sienna tailgate handle,
The pics were great, the item was exactly what I needed to replace my broken handle. The pics helped me decide this was the piece I was looking for. When it arrived, it fit perfectly into my van. The price was unbeatable, dealerships were asking 4 times as much for the part and wanted another large sum to put it in. I did the work myself in 20-30 minutes. Amazon saved me a lot. Thanks.
