1982 Cadillac Seville – Brights and parking lights stopped working, and fuse keeps blowing?

Question by Christi G: 1982 Cadillac Seville – Brights and parking lights stopped working, and fuse keeps blowing?
In my 1982 Cadillac Seville, the parking lights no longer come on, and the brights stopped working. The lever no longer clicks when I try to switch from dim to brights. I don’t know a lot about cars, but I thought since they all stopped working at once it might have just been the fuse. The fuse was blown, so I replaced it, but the lights still didn’t work, and after trying them, the new fuse had blown too. Any ideas?

There’s probably a short in the switch for the brights

Your park lamps have a short in the system, hard to tell where for it can be in a number of places, this should be diagnosed by someone whom works 12 volt electrical systems. The short could be at either end or somewhere in between on this car.
Some place are: light switch, fuse panel, wiring harness through the front firewall, at or near the bulbs.
The lever not clicking for your dimmer control means 1) either the switch under the dash on the column is out of adjustment or broke.
