I am a MOPAR fan, and have an 83 Wagoneer that I love, but these guys are right. There really is nothing MOPAR about FSJ’s. There pure Jeep before Chrysler came along. Even after Chrysler bought Jeep from AMC they didn’t thange the FJS, they killed them in 1991 so as not to compete with the Ram. They also kept the little Cherokee largly AMC desinged till they killed it in 2001. The 4.0L I6 in Jeeps till 2005 was the last AMC engine.

@rmendell Yep, but those 727′s were tough, I had one in a Scout II, I blew 3 engines but retained the original transmission, now my 78 Wagoneer had a GM Turbo 400 behind the AMC 360 V8, I’d have kept it had the front drive shaft not spit out and knock a chunk out of the transmission.

@rmendell absofuckinglutely right..

@napalmhope There’s nothing Mopar about FSJs except their transmissions and demise. It’s a Willys design, launched by Kaiser, improved by AMC and killed by Chrysler. Heck, even the “Mopar” transmission is renamed TorqueCommand in AMC/Jeep applications.

tinkerjeep says in August 31st 2011 at 10:20 pm

@napalmhope Not. Sorry, but the 1977 Cherokees or any AMCs never came with a 440. A 401V8, yes, but it was an AMC V8, NEVER a MOPAR V8. But the 727s did come in 1980 to 92 Grand Wagoneers, 80-83 Cherokee Chief/Laredo wide tracks. Later Jeep Crand Cherokees DID come with Mopar V8s, but not untill the death of the Kaiser designed, “Full Size Jeeps”.

chevyblazer7992 says in August 31st 2011 at 11:23 pm

would this happen to be at martin dragway?

Tim1975100 says in August 31st 2011 at 11:26 pm

@napalmhope The Cherokee Chief was an amc powered jeep and never came with a 440 mopar and is in reality not a mopar anyway other than the tourqueflite transmission offered behind the amc v-8.

memyselfandirene1 says in September 1st 2011 at 12:14 am

Unless the motor was changed, it’s an AMC 360, and if it’s a Qudratrac, it has a GM TH400 transmission, at least my 78 Chief did.

napalmhope says in September 1st 2011 at 12:35 am

Dude, its a Wagoneer man. I have a 77 Cherokee Chief which came with the original 440 , 727 and no slip diff. I’ve never timed it but it sure as leaves 11′s a block long. Waggys and Cherokees ( the FSJ 2 and 4 doors) are awesome old school Mopar.
I actually have made mine into a convertible with a soft top. I’ll have to film it and get it up here. Mopar or no car.

BerriesMcGOO says in September 1st 2011 at 12:59 am

So what have you done to the wagoneer to make it that fast?

critter505 says in September 1st 2011 at 1:55 am

Now the off road race! lol

Scrambler85 says in September 1st 2011 at 2:18 am

@HOTROD74GremlinX they bought a controling intrest.

SixSpeedSS says in September 1st 2011 at 3:08 am

Pretty cool. I’m thinking of getting a Wagoneer myself, and have a big background in strip/street musclecars. So I could see playing with a Waggy like this a bit myself. Neat to see / read your experiences.

Neat clip!

HOTROD74GremlinX says in September 1st 2011 at 3:50 am

@kowalskideahl in 1972 AMC started using Mopar trannies but with the bellhousing molded to fit the AMC V8′s and inline 6′s. I have a 904 behind the AMC 360 in my 74 Gremlin.I will gladly shit can the 904 when I get my Tremec TKO 5 speed for it

HOTROD74GremlinX says in September 1st 2011 at 4:12 am

@Scrambler85 Renault bought shares of the company and not all of AMC!

HOTROD74GremlinX says in September 1st 2011 at 4:26 am

@ghinmi Again, lemmings, not everyone runs a “me too” belly button motor!

HOTROD74GremlinX says in September 1st 2011 at 4:37 am

@snowblind7272 Why go Mopar and run slower when he’s doing just fine with RAMBLER power! You Mopar strokes gotta realize that more than one make made a “360″ cubed V8!

PcGamers23 says in September 1st 2011 at 5:34 am

what drag strip is this

Scrambler85 says in September 1st 2011 at 5:58 am

@kowalskideahl AMC partnered with France’s Renault, from 1980-1987, when Chrysler purchased AMC. Both AMC and Renault brands ceased in the U.S. The Jeep/Eagle division of Chrysler Corporation was formed after Chrysler’s 1987 buyout of American Motors, with Jeep and some Eagle models marketed primarily by AMC dealers.

CToon123 says in September 1st 2011 at 6:49 am

cairnsguy22 says in September 1st 2011 at 7:39 am
